Preparing for college is a great opportunity for high-school juniors and seniors to get to know themselves better. Essay prompts are self-exploration exercises in disguise; choosing the right college can be like choosing the right friends; standardized test results reveal where they rank amidst their peers.

College Essays
Writing effective college essays can be a simple process, as long as you approach it differently than you would an academic paper for English class. Through a dialogue driven process, I help students speak the truth about what they actually think so they can “write the essay that no one else could write”.

SAT and ACT
Over 95% of my students have improved their score by one standard deviation, if not more, over my 10 years of standardized test tutoring. With copiously tabulated spreadsheets and infographics to chart progress, I give my students all the tools they need to reach their highest potential.

College Advising
As an Independent Education Consultant, I’ve been formally trained in the broad variety of postsecondary options in the United States. Through research-backed evaluations and rapport building, I’ll help your student apply to the schools that best fit their interests and needs.

Executive Functioning
Here, I focus primarily on time management, productivity and healthy study habits (sleep, phone usage, etc). I am trained to address the needs of students with ADHD and other learning differences, and I draw heavily from the latest trends in educational psychology and the work of Cal Newport for practical techniques to stay focused.

Academic Tutoring and AP Exams
I tutor all math up to Algebra 2, and I have been formally trained to assist students in AP US History, AP World History, AP Language and Composition, and AP Literature. I work alongside each student and purchase the same textbooks they use in the classroom, tailoring my assignments to meet them where they’re at.

Mentorship for Young Men
In higher education, there is an emerging concern for the drop in college enrollment amongst young men. Many educators and education researchers point to declining performance in reading and language development among male high school students, as well as emotional fluency and socialization. Others point to the affordability of colleges/universities in the US, or their lack of appeal for vocationally inclined individuals. During my 10 years of experience in college prep, I’ve found that extra guidance towards finding purpose, meaning and motivation can make all the difference. Click the link below to learn more about the mentorship program I’ve created to help young men find their way after high school.

Over 10 years I’ve worked with over 200 students, and have helped students in all areas of the college application process. Click here to read what students and parents have said about working with me.

Henrik was super effective in allowing me to tap into my personal writing style and find my true voice at the keyboard. He really made an effort to understand my goals, what motivates me, and who I am as person. Henrik was INTEGRAL in my acceptances into my top schools, and he made the process very fun…I learned a lot about myself self, and I would highly recommend Henrik to anyone beginning the process of applying to college!

Henrik has been helping my son with his college search and the common app essay writing process. He is an expert at guiding my son through choosing which college programs will be a good fit. He is focused, engaged and keeps my son on task with essay writing assignments after each lesson. Henrik has managed to break down an impossibly overwhelming process into doable lessons that my teenaged son truly enjoys attending
–Deirdre Morrissey, mother of Olin, UC Berkeley

I am so impressed by the tutoring both of my children received from Henrik. They have completely different personalities and learning styles and Henrik connected with both….they both had significant score increases from their initial proctored test to the final official ACT, with one daughter jumping from the low 20s in English and Reading to perfect 36s on her final test
